Many designers jump to solutions too quickly. I've learned to sit with the problem longer than feels comfortable...to listen, ask the questions nobody else is asking, and resist the pull toward the screen until we all agree that we know what we're solving for.
The real work happens before any wireframe gets drawn: getting business goals, user needs, and technical reality into the same room and aligned. I run early alignment workshops for exactly this reason, because misalignment at the start can make projects fall apart at the end.
For over 15 years I've applied that philosophy across ed tech, business intelligence, sports, and consumer apps. I have a Master of Science in Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington, where I learned to be rigorous,  but my approach is still simple: clear strategy and intuitive design that works.
When I'm not in deep work mode, you can find me paddling the Puget Sound hoping to spot an Orca!
